I believe this stuff is going on all over the developed world. Where people would be better of financially if they became a tradie or a machine specialist rather than getting an academic degree.

Even if a university graduate spends a year unemployed mooching off their parents before finally landing a cushy office job, three years later they're caught up with people who spent that entire year toiling in a factory.
It's the government that's trying to herd people into vocational schools to keep the manufacturing sector supplied with workers even though services are more profitable.
